Shield Act Passes, New York Leads
Glens Falls, New York — Lower Adirondack Pride is celebrating the passage of a new nation-leading Shield Act in New York State, strengthening protections for individuals who provide or receive legally protected health care — including gender-affirming care and abortion.
This legislation reinforces New York’s commitment to bodily autonomy, privacy, and safety at a time when access to care is under attack across the country. The Shield Act ensures that patients, providers, and supporters are protected from out-of-state efforts to criminalize or punish care that is legal in New York.
Lower Adirondack Pride was proud to be a champion of this bill. More than 500 people from the tri-county region alone raised their voices — contacting lawmakers, sharing stories, and demanding action in Albany.
“This is what happens when our community shows up,” said Cam Cardinale, President of Lower Adirondack Pride. “At a time when so many are trying to scare people out of living authentically or accessing care, New York stepped up — and our region helped make that happen. This victory belongs to every person who took the time to speak out and fight for one another.”
Lower Adirondack Pride extends deep gratitude to statewide partners, advocates, and elected leaders who worked together to pass this critical legislation. The work continues — but today, we celebrate a powerful reminder: when we organize, we win.
